A lot of people showed up at Nick-a-Nees tonight -- thanks all of you who came!

With a bit of luck, we may have picked up a couple of new knitters, too -- we'll see.

Anyway: [livejournal.com profile] fuziekat asked me about the lyrics and music for the first verse to 'You're the Tea in my Teacup', so with no futher ado here's the words and chords:

VERSE:
/G /D
You're the tea in my teacup
/G /D
You're the beer in my glass
/G /D
You're the whiskey in my coffee
 /C /G
I know that we're gonna last
 /C /G /G7
I know we're sure gonna last

CHORUS:
   /C /C
And I can't live without you baby
/G /G
You just smooth all my troubles away
/C /C
You've become quite a habit to me, I
/D /D
Want you more each and every day
I would try to transcribe the melody, but it is late and I am lazy and probably wouldn't do a very good job of it anyway, so it may be just was well to learn the melody from the recording.

Thanks again! Good night!

Here's a bit of nonsense.
One fine day after a show I'll got in my time machine,
And I'll went back forty decades just to see what I can seen.
I was walking down the street and I found a bright penny,
So I took it to the market and invested it wisely.

And I came back to the present and I had three million bucks.
(When you've got compound interest then you don't need any luck.)
I'll invest in a research firm to invent time machines,
And in less than sixty months, they'll exceeded all my dreams.

Then I'll take one back to now, and I'll gave it back to me,
And I'll sang this little song that I once had sung to me,
And I think that brings us up to date, excuse me if I'm terse.
I think I'll take my leave and do the things in the first verse.

T for T. Rex, T for Tarbosaur.
T for T. Rex, T for Tarbosaur.
T's the time traveller my Thelma left me for.

I'd rather drink muddy water, sleep in a hollow log
Drink muddy water, sleep in a hollow log
Than to be in the Triassic and be eaten by a Theropod.

If you don't want me, mama, you sure don't have to stall.
Don't want me, mama, you sure don't have to stall.
'Cause I can get more women than an Apatosaurus can haul.

I'm gonna get me a pistol just as long as I am tall.
I'm gonna get me a pistol just as long as I am tall.
Gonna shoot that time traveller, even if he's my grandpaw.

Some of you might remember a challenge from a while back where I wrote ten sets of lyrics based on the interests of some of my Livejournal friends.

You might also remember that I recently ordered a new piece of recording gear, which I am still impatiently waiting for them to ship grar smash.

But, still, eventually it will arrive, and I will want to test it out. But what should I record?

Well, putting both of those little trips down memory lane together, I come up with this:

[Poll #451760]

So. Whaddaya think?

The Challenge:

I asked people to let me know if I should look at the interests listed in their Livejournal profile, pick one or more of them, and write a set of lyrics based on the interest. I could pick whatever interests I wanted (they could request one but I was free to ignore the request if I wanted) and I made no guarantee as to the quality of what I came up with.

The Results:

are below. I am generally quite happy with them (although there are some weak spots), and I hope the people I wrote them for are too! It took me eleven days to write them all.

It's possible I might record some of them at some point, but I'm not sure when, and if someone else wants to take a whack at any of 'em feel free to do so (and do whatever lyrical tweaking you consider necessary).

Hey, say a word or two about the songs with your name on them, OK? At least, I don't recall having seen mention of some of them before.

A couple of days ago I posted a challenge where I would write lyrics about peoples' Livejournal interests. This idea was taken from [livejournal.com profile] urbeatle.

Well, I still have a lot of lyrics to get through (I'll start posting what I've got in a few minutes, though ... Livejournal outages really hamper a project like this!) but [livejournal.com profile] urbeatle posted lyrics about one of my interests the other day, and this evening for fun I recorded them. (I should maybe note there aren't any similar expectations or requirements for anyone who responded to my challenge!) So here they are:
lyrics )Other Ur-Beatleish lyrical awesomeness can be found in his livejournal and other places.

[livejournal.com profile] urbeatle came up with a variation on a meme that's going around:
  1. Comment here and I'll pick one of your LJ interests and write lyrics, in a style of my choosing.
  2. You have no say in what I write for you, or the quality thereof.
  3. Put this in your journal along with the lyrics written for you (or something similarly artistic or crafty; the original meme called for sketches instead of songwriting).
And there you have it.
