Yesterday I was talking to Chris. "I have to get up early tomorrow," I said. "When?" he asked. "7 am," he said. "Why do you have to get up that early?" he asked. "A guy's coming to replace the ceiling in my bathroom at 8 am," I said. "There's no way he's going to show up at 8," he said. "He showed up at 8:30 this morning," I said. Chris shook his head. "There's no way he'll show up at 8."

So I'm a little grumpy right now, because Chris was right. I think I'll give him another 20 minutes, and then I'll go to the Liberty Elm for some breakfast and to play some music.

In more cheerful news, I went to a tie-dye party last night and dyed a few things.

In the morning (at around 9:30 am) I'm getting on a plane to North Carolina, where I will be spending a few days with [livejournal.com profile] cgoldfish and [livejournal.com profile] wazroth. Man! I'll be back on Monday (supposed to be getting in at 1:50 pm).

[livejournal.com profile] katrinkles taught me how to crochet today -- which is to say that I managed to do a few rows of a bathmat pattern that I've been looking at since, oh, last May. Then I realized that I kind of messed up the first row or two and tore it all out. But I think the next attempt will go better, and hopefully won't have to do too much more ripping out.

Last week I started a baby blanket which is a sort of cable stitch sampler; it was something to work on while I was waiting to be taught how to crochet. It went faster than I expected, so the main bits are all done; all that remains is to sew the pieces together, then knit a border (unless I want to make it bigger, but I think it's actually an OK size, especially if I give it a big border). I'll work on sewing it together this weekend if the DHS confiscates my crochet hook.

After SNB I went to Nick-a-Nees to see a band called the Wippets. They were disappointed that I didn't bring my accordion. (They've never heard me play it; they're just aware that I own one.) I told them I would bring it to open mike on Friday.

While I was at Nick-a-Nees it is possible that a woman hit on me, although it was hard for me to tell because I'm not used to it and also she was kind of drunk. She also said that her friend, who was also at the bar and whose name I forget but who does a cappella renditions of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'Space Oddity' at open mikes around town, told her that I was standoffish, which might be true. (That is, it might be true that he told her that, and it also might be true that I'm standoffish.) Anyway, I talked to her for a little while until the meatball sandwich I ordered arrived, at which point she went back to her group of friends.

I'm not sure if I'll be checking livejournal or email before Monday, so if not, I hope you all have good weekends!

[livejournal.com profile] katrinkles gave me a completely unexpected and astonishingly nice birthday present: some home-made stitch markers.

Stitch markers

Most of these refer to one thing or another that I'm known for in [livejournal.com profile] snbprov -- the mudflap girl hearkens back to the penicorn project, the dinosaur to the dinosaur I designed, the airplane to the Lost get-togethers at [livejournal.com profile] plant_geek's, etc.

I made a bit of a silly (but hopefully not serious) mistake with the blanket I've been knitting the past week or so, but as soon as I get that straightened out the stitch holders will be put to use, you bet.

Many thanks, [livejournal.com profile] katrinkles!

Sad eyes

One tactic that is used to influence people in a certain circle of my friends is giving them sad eyes. Here [livejournal.com profile] cgoldfish is giving the sad eyes:

I can make it on my own!

and here is me:

I'm gonna be a quarterback when I grow up!

At a certain point I made a mental connection between the sad eyes and Li'l Brudder from Homestar Runner. Ever since then, when someone gives me the sad eyes, it is pretty difficult for me to not laugh. Which some might consider strange. Actually, some do consider strange. Anyway, this has led to occasional sad-eye-offs, where two people will give each other the sad eyes until the other breaks. [livejournal.com profile] cgoldfish won one of these contests at lunch today.

I encourage other people to post sad eyes pictures.

That is all! For now.

Look what she got me for HMas!

This may have some implications for my weekend plans.

Good mood

Man, I was in a good mood at [livejournal.com profile] snbprov tonight. (I might have been a little too giddy -- sorry if I was a little annoying!) This was particularly unexpected as about an hour early, when I was getting out of work, I was really not in any kind of mood that could be described in that way.

So why the mood change? Many of you (who are quite good at keeping secrets, by the way) already know, but:

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] christychristy, for bringing this nice bit of fiendishness into my life.

(Also, I am taking suggestions for what to name him.)

I was poking around my cellphone and found this forgotten photo of [livejournal.com profile] saucypunk and [livejournal.com profile] peachcrush that I think I took a couple of weeks ago at Jake's.

I'm not sure what they were looking at.

I apologize for the bizarro format that these video clips are in, which I'm not sure what it is, but Quicktime Player seems to be able to play them OK. You might have to right-click on them, download them to your hard drive, and then open them in something to view them.

Anyway, here's an initial attempt at the Digestion Dance: http://jwgh.org/livejournal/knittinggroup/digestion1.3gp

and here's a discussion of how it should actually be done: http://jwgh.org/livejournal/knittinggroup/digestion2.3gp

Also, I appear to have ended up with someone's fudge. [livejournal.com profile] donutgirl maybe? If so, and you want to meet for lunch tomorrow or something, I can give it to you then. Otherwise, I will eat it, but probably not tonight.

Also, I bought some gummi bologna tonight:

The note on the upper right part of the package is a little hard to read in the picture, but it says 'FOR BEST QUALITY, OPEN PACKAGE AND EAT THEM ALL'.

Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] cgoldfish, [livejournal.com profile] katylady74, and I went to Yarns at Lace Wings in Warwick and [livejournal.com profile] cgoldfish bought some yarn to make a sweater. )
