Back when I worked at Sears, some guy exchanged his not functioning, nasty used phone for a display model. It wasn't even the same model type. I had talked to him earlier, so I knew who it would have been, and sure enough, I saw him and his companion scooting across the parking lot. I called security, and they hunted him down, and they brought him back
They then let him go when he apologized for "misunderstanding."
I think it had to do with being a white adult male instead of a teenager or minority, to be honest. I couldn't believe they just let a shoplifter go like that.
