odd coincidences
As I was leaving the
knitdrinkprov meetup tonight,
grocersfreezer noticed the 'Vote for Barbara Haller' bumper sticker on my car and said, "Did I ever tell you that one of my teachers in college was named Charlotte Haller?"
"Where did you go?" I asked.
"Drake," she said.
So I called up my sister (who used to be a professor at Drake) and she remembered
grocersfreezer too. What do you think of that?

For a while it looked like Drake was going to hire her husband Joe (who also is a historian), but then Drake got a new department head who got rid of the position that he was going to be hired for, so they started looking for work elsewhere.
Currently Joe is working at Dartmouth and Char has a job at Worcester State. They had their first child, Ezra, on October 13 2003. He is really cute.
They're currently living in the house Char and I grew up in in Holland, Massachusetts. (My father and his wife live across the street.)
I want them all to come to a SNB sometime, but it hasn't happened yet!
Char asked how you came to be living in Providence. I didn't think that you were specifically looking to move to the east coast but that you had applied for a bunch of coaching jobs and this was the best one, but I wasn't sure if I was remembering right. Did I?

i was working at the university of missouri, kind of sick of being in the midwest and very sick of working with my former boss. i wanted, actually, to work and live on the east coast, to which i had never really been.
when i learned that my current boss got the job at brown, i emailed him (a friend of mine who i had known since high school), and he said he was looking for an assistant. i said i was available, and so that's the end of that story. i left without completing my masters in english, but i plan on completing it by the end of the year.
i remember when her husband taught a class of ours once. it was awesome. we honestly loved her. i remember writing an email to her because i was so pissed off with my needlessly conservative classmates, and she was understanding.

I was pretty startled, actually,
