odd coincidences

As I was leaving the [livejournal.com profile] knitdrinkprov meetup tonight, [livejournal.com profile] grocersfreezer noticed the 'Vote for Barbara Haller' bumper sticker on my car and said, "Did I ever tell you that one of my teachers in college was named Charlotte Haller?"

"Where did you go?" I asked.

"Drake," she said.

So I called up my sister (who used to be a professor at Drake) and she remembered [livejournal.com profile] grocersfreezer too. What do you think of that?

i think it's so sweet.

i called my friend lexi up and told her what happened and she said "charlotte haller is the only reason i got through american history in college." you should tell her that. we remember her fondly.

what is she doing now?

well, you're not really right about how i came to be living in providence.

i was working at the university of missouri, kind of sick of being in the midwest and very sick of working with my former boss. i wanted, actually, to work and live on the east coast, to which i had never really been.

when i learned that my current boss got the job at brown, i emailed him (a friend of mine who i had known since high school), and he said he was looking for an assistant. i said i was available, and so that's the end of that story. i left without completing my masters in english, but i plan on completing it by the end of the year.

i remember when her husband taught a class of ours once. it was awesome. we honestly loved her. i remember writing an email to her because i was so pissed off with my needlessly conservative classmates, and she was understanding.

Ah, but does she remember you fondly?

I was pretty startled, actually,

at my ten-year college reunion when Paul Cooper (http://www.rice.edu/fondren/woodson/mss/ms463.html) remembered and even recognized me. Even though he was on my senior recital committee and my roommate was his favorite composition student, I really didn't think I'd made such a lasting impression.
