I went to Supercuts in Cranston to get my hair cut last week (as is my habit), and as I was getting trimmed Gwen Stefani came on the radio and the room was enveloped in the immortal lyrics:
I heard that you were talking sh...
And you didn't think that I would hear it
People hear you talking like that, getting everybody fired up
So I'm ready to attack, gonna lead the pack
Gonna get a touchdown, gonna take you out
That's right, put your pom-poms down, getting everybody fired up

A few times I've been around that track
So it's not just gonna happen like that
Because I ain't no hollaback girl
I ain't no hollaback girl
And people were sort of grooving to it silently, and then one of the hair stylists said, "What is this song about, anyway?" One of the customers said, authoritatively, "Nothing!" The conversation ended.

I totally went and looked up "hollaback girl" on urban dictionary when I first heard that song. People are always so impressed with me now that I know what the hell she's talking about.

oh my god. There are a million more definitions there now than when I looked, and all of them are based on the song (which was not true last time). The definition I found is pretty close to the one given in #11 on that site. I can't find the original.

The last time I heard this song, I was also in a hairstyling salon.

CREEPY.

Then I went upstairs to Sephora and spent too much monkeys on shampoooga.

I hate the Wiki format's inconsistency, but Wikipedia explained equity, a concept that has eluded me for years. It's got its good points.

While I was a fan of No Doubt a decade or more ago, I'm so deeply tired of Gwen Stefani that she enduces unstoppable yawns. I haven't heard "Hollaback Girl", thankfully; the last single ("Rich Girl"?) was monotonous enough. Isn't she 40 by now? Why is she singing a song about high school?

I also wonder why she is singing about high school -- she was 35 when the video was made, 36 now I think. Seriously, don't you think you'd be over high school drama by the time you're nearing 40?

My momma said that being a rock star is like any other line of work.
You start working in your 20s and you know if you are going anywhere by your early 30s.
But this means, that in your early 30s you are trying to convince high school kids you are cool.
If it works, you get a few years of high school 'tanger before the kids wise up and figure you are a dirty old man.
