Update

My powerbook refused to start up at all this morning, so I bought a new one which I am using right now. The place I bought it said that they take old laptops as trade-in, so I will check into that.

It turns out that Apple won't repair iPods with cracked LCDs after all, so they're mailing it back to me. At least I don't have to pay shipping.

The woman I spoke to told me that the liquid released when the LCD cracks generally will screw up the rest of the iPod's workings on the order of a few months, so they don't repair 'em, and since the damage was owing to me dropping the thing they won't give me a new one under warrantee.

This hasn't really been a great time for me technologically, has it?
