demo recorded

(sorry people who are my myspace friends and who are also on my mailing list -- you're kind of getting spammed by me today)

As some of you might know, I have a couple of CDs I put together called Imaginary Internet Man and Plastic and Thread. They are basically random collections of whatever original songs I'd recorded when I put the CD together. This gives them (particularly Imaginary Internet Man) an eclecticism that I sort of like, but I've come to realize that they aren't really suitable for use as demos to give to club owners and the like -- there are lots of songs on them that I would be very unlikely to ever play live.

So last weekend I recorded some songs, added a few older songs that I thought were appropriate, and put together a demo.

Songwriters in the Round on Sunday at AS220

This is this coming Sunday September 9 at AS220, 115 Empire Street in Providence, RI. It'll be from 7-9 pm and there will be a $5 cover.

This is RISA's 'Songwriters in the Round' series, where he and three other songwriters perform four songs in the round, with the third song being written on an assigned theme. As I've mentioned here before, this month's theme is ABSOLUTE ZERO. I have written my song, which I realized soon after I wrote it is basically a rewriting of Dion's 'The Wanderer', but I think it sounds pretty good; we'll see if anyone else agrees. I will probably record it eventually.

I think Songwriters in the Round is generally pretty fun; you get to see what happens to songwriters when a topic is thrown at them from out of left field. (And of course the audience members get to propose your own themes to inflict on the next month's batch of songwriters.)
