I'm thinking about making a small blanket/throw for my mother's birthday (which is in a couple of weeks; I'm guessing I won't be done in time for the birthday itself, but hopefully I will have enough done to be able to show her what I'm up to).

Edit: Those links didn't work very well, did they? Let's try that again: Hemlock Ring Blanket vs. hexagon blanket

I would probably have to buy some yarn for either of these (although I do have 4 1/2 skeins of Berocco suede left over from the snapping turtle skirt that I could use for the second item). I've never really made a lace pattern before, but that could be a reason to try out pattern #1 or a reason to avoid it for now.

It occurs to me that I haven't made a posting about knitting projects in a while (blame Ravelry). I'll try to make up for that soon.

Not only does the hexagon blanket look really cool, I think it would be warmer because it has less... holes? Open work? Uh, what DO you call it?

I suppose it may just be the choice of colors, but the hexagon blanket to me looks much more like a kid's blanket. I like the, well, lacyness of the lace lap robe (it looks like something that you should be able to pull through a wedding ring.). It may not be as warm as the hexagon one, though that may also have to do with what yarn you choose to use with it. Also, I'm assuming you're making this for your mother when she's a little chilled while watching tv, not when she's facing imminent danger of freezing to death. :)

Jeeze..............

That Hemlock is the most beautiful blanket I have ever seen in my life~!
I Love that gray, but I'll bet a suede-y color would also be quite quietly lovely.

Thanks! I loved Myles & Heather background vocals, & Jared's slide is pretty sweet!

That song was written on a 'dare', & was never going to be sung again...:0)
but it is my One song that has had several people cover it- lol!

I have no clue about anything...
