A lazy phone photo post

Another couple of sets of phone photos; sorry for the lack of explanatory captions.

* Fireworks pictures taken in Worcester, Massachusetts on July 2. (Plus some pictures taken on the way to the fireworks.)

* Pictures taken going to and exploring George's Island in Boston Harbor on July 3.

The third one down on the right in the George's Island set -- is that a staircase that leads nowhere?

No, that's just the odd perspective of the photo. The grass that appears to the left of the staircase isn't on the same level as the grass that appears to its right; the grass on the right is probably about forty feet higher or so (I'm awful at estimating distances). You can see that starting at the left side of the top of the stairs there's a fence to keep people from falling off, and off in the distance you can see the wall that the higher level of grass is planted on.

Those stairs are very important, although that's not actually how I got up to where I took the picture. Instead, I was wandering around the island at ground level when I noticed a worn path going very steeply up an embankment. Of course I immediately wondered what was so interesting up there (since apparently many people had made the trip up in the recent path), so I climbed up it. At the top of the path was a parks official whose job it was to yell at everyone who went up the path and to tell them that they should have used the stairs instead.
