A cover of a song originally recorded in 1903. Some of the lyrics in the original Harry Macdonough recording were a little difficult to decypher, so I might not have got them all right.

It doesn't explain what the deal is with the parrot.

I dunno. I found this in an interview with a member of the Dropkick Murphys (who recorded their own Tessie song that told the story of the first Tessie song):

"It sounded like a 300-pound elderly woman sitting in her apartment in Beacon Hill singing some silly song about her parrot,"' Casey recalls. "We just looked at each other and said, 'What the hell does this have to do with baseball?' I was a fan to the point that I was willing to damage the band's career and do it whether the song was good or not, but the rest of the guys were not so positive."

I'm not sure who wrote the song originally. It's referred to as a 'Broadway song' in most of the sites that I found reference to it, but I don't know if that means it was in a musical or what.

I can't offhand think of a modern song that has quite the same disconnect between verses.
