Justice Stephen G. Breyer wondered about other illegal items. "You know, he grows heroin, cocaine, [or] tomatoes that are going to have genomes in them that could, at some point, lead to tomato children," said Breyer, spinning out what he conceded was a complicated hypothetical question. Are all these beyond the regulatory power of the federal government? he asked.

I thought, maybe, if I read that article and saw the quote in context, it might make sense. But I'm still horribly confused. Is Breyer worried about heroin-tomato hybrids? Does he want to ban private growing of all plants in case somehow they turn into babies? The fuck?

"After his question, Justice Breyer was quickly tucked into bed by Justice Ginsburg, who gave him some warm milk and a pat on the head."

I don't know exactly what that means either, but I've been thinking about that sort of thing for a while. How long until someone engineers a THC-bearing tomato? Or apple tree? Or an opiate-laced carrot? Or, for that level of whackiness, a human child who secretes opiates from under his fingernails?

I am not sure who you are- or what your connection to Pobig is , but I thought that was a wonderful piece of satire -nicely tongue in cheek about how ridiculous the courts here in the US have become....it is all so sily. I am Canadian - please forgive! - but I notice that these issues always lag around the border for about two years before they finally jump across...same sex marriages, growing pot in your backyard, hmm I can't remember the Canadian take on GMFs....
