This post immediately led me to wonder if either (a) you had multiple bottles of cherry soda open simultaneously, or (b) you had them opened sequentially, separately spilling each bottle over some period of time.
At least it wasn't a single peach soda spilled all over your apartment.
Light Karo corn syrup. I spilled a whole bottle of this stuff all over our pantry when I was about 12. That inspired and motivated mopping, wiping, scouring, rinsing, remopping, and doing stuff and hands and knees.
Multiple soda openings happened to me when I worked at Walgreens and the inclined conveyor belt was at a steeper angle than I figured and a whole box of bottled sodas flipped backwards, end over end at me and a bunch broke.
And some just made fizzly "about to blow" noises so nobody wanted to go near there.
