Goin' walking on the East Side

I had my checkup today and was told that I should get a half hour of exercise five or six days a week. I had planned to use my exercise bike because it would be convenient and would mean that I didn't have to leave my apartment, but according to my doctor that's a bad choice for me for exactly those reasons and a better plan would be to walk.
So that's what I'm gonna do.
Tonight at
knitdrinkprov a couple of people expressed interest in also going walking, so here is the plan:
Tomorrow (Wednesday) we will meet as soon after 6 pm as is practical (I get off work at six, but maybe I can sneak out a few minutes early?) outside Reflections at the corner of Governor and Wickendon (chosen because I think everyone knows where it is and it's reasonably convenient to most people, I think). Then we'll walk for around a half hour around the hood. Then I'll go home, take a quick shower, and go to music practice.
If you comment here (or AIM me at jwgh or call me if you have my number) then I will make sure that we wait for you before we start walking. So far I know
cgoldfish is going.
Tomorrow is the start of a new era! I hope.
So that's what I'm gonna do.

Date: 2005-05-11 06:38 am (UTC)I hope walking works for you, because it's great exercise and everyone loves it, but I spent three years walking (and keeping a food journal, and dieting) and never lost a pound. However, when I was using my exercise bike recently, even just a few minutes a day (and no diet) worked.
Not to discourage you - don't take it that way, but I just want to encourage you to find exercise that works, and not spend three idiotic years walking because Oprah told you to.
Why is convenient exercise a bad idea?

Date: 2005-05-11 12:47 pm (UTC)Apparently one of the reason my guts are uncomfortable is because I am sitting down all day, which I would also be doing on the bike, so it wouldn't be as good as getting out and about.
I am thinking that once I get to the point where I am feeling better I might start doing some biking in addition to the walking. It would be nice to be able to do some exercise in the morning before I take my shower, but I'm not sure that I'll want to go out for a nice walk first thing in the morning.
One of the reasons I went in for a physical for the first time in years is that I had started going on the exercise bike and it seemed like it might be making me feel a little worse, so I decided to stop until I consulted a professional.
Also, I figure that any kind of exercise is better than what I do now, which is nothing.

Date: 2005-05-11 01:04 pm (UTC)Tomorrow will be a little complicated, because I have SNBProv at 7 and then band practice at 8:30, so I don't think I will have time after work. So maybe Friday right after 6 will be the next little walk.
Saturday my sister and her family will be visiting, so I'm not sure what will happen there. Sunday I don't think I have any plans yet.
