I had my checkup today and was told that I should get a half hour of exercise five or six days a week. I had planned to use my exercise bike because it would be convenient and would mean that I didn't have to leave my apartment, but according to my doctor that's a bad choice for me for exactly those reasons and a better plan would be to walk.

So that's what I'm gonna do.

Tonight at [livejournal.com profile] knitdrinkprov a couple of people expressed interest in also going walking, so here is the plan:

Tomorrow (Wednesday) we will meet as soon after 6 pm as is practical (I get off work at six, but maybe I can sneak out a few minutes early?) outside Reflections at the corner of Governor and Wickendon (chosen because I think everyone knows where it is and it's reasonably convenient to most people, I think). Then we'll walk for around a half hour around the hood. Then I'll go home, take a quick shower, and go to music practice.

If you comment here (or AIM me at jwgh or call me if you have my number) then I will make sure that we wait for you before we start walking. So far I know [livejournal.com profile] cgoldfish is going.

Tomorrow is the start of a new era! I hope.

I'll start walking now. I should be there by... Thursday, 2018.

I hope walking works for you, because it's great exercise and everyone loves it, but I spent three years walking (and keeping a food journal, and dieting) and never lost a pound. However, when I was using my exercise bike recently, even just a few minutes a day (and no diet) worked.

Not to discourage you - don't take it that way, but I just want to encourage you to find exercise that works, and not spend three idiotic years walking because Oprah told you to.

Why is convenient exercise a bad idea?

my friend's mom started walking to lose weight and it was seriously the best thing for her. plus i think walking is fun, it obviously depends on how far/fast you go, though.

when i lived on the east side I walked/ran on blackstone boulevard every day - sometimes when I got to the end I'd go to maximillian's or the garden grill and get a smoothie. Eventually I learned the names of all the dogs that were walked between 5:30 and 6:30.

Anyway, if you all keep it up maybe someday I will join you but for now walking to the end of my street is quite taxing.

i'll totally walk with you once finals and stuff are over. plus, by that time i'll be living basically at that corner, so that will be convenient as all hell.
