Foot report

I am sure everyone is fascinated by my feet!

I did manage to buy some new shoes yesterday. They are white new balance shoes of some kind or another. I also bought some special shoe inserts, because, why not?

I think that they have actually helped. It still hurts to walk, but not walking no longer hurts very much, so that is good. Also, I seem to be able to move faster. Of course, I could just be healing naturally and the shoes have nothing to do with it.

Yesterday I couldn't figure out where the ice machine was and by the time I was back in my room I felt disinclined to leave again, but tonight I will try to be better about this.

The goddamn MARC commuter train platform has no benches, so yesterday I ended up standing up until the next train to DC came, which ended up being maybe 45 minutes. I have not yet decided whether I will try to leave work a little early (so I can catch the 6:05) or late (so I can catch the 6:55 without standing around for goddamn ever), or if I should just take the Metro (which would make the trip take 45 minutes instead of 15 minutes but would involve less standing around). To an extent it will depend on if I can get anyone to give me a lift to the train station and, if so, when they want to leave.

Current reading: The Amber Spyglass.

Training went OK today. Two more days to go.

but from your vague description of pain in the arch it sounds like possibly plantar fasciitis and what you would need for real help is Spemco arch supports. Does standing on the edge of a step make it feel better?

Also you might want someplace to go to sit and be entertained (http://wylddelirium.livejournal.com/602669.html) tomorrow night.

eh?

It's the 9:30 screening. In 3 1/2 hours you could WALK from New Carrollton to Silver Spring, though with a bad foot it might not leave you much time for dinner and I can't speak for the neighborhoods you'd go through.

That does suck the way the MARC schedules cross just wrong if you miss the 6:05. Do people in Silver Spring hate New Carrollton that much?

No need to change twice on the Metro, just change directly at Metro Center. The schedules mesh so that you'd wind up on the same train either way.

When I had (self diagnosed) plantar fasciitis, which manifested as a pain in my heel, most severe first thing in the morning, I (self) treated it with a new pair of shoes (Reebok walking shoes, I think they were); new socks (Thorlos, ridiculously expensive but absolutely great, and there's a woman who sells seconds on eBay for not too bad a price); exercise (sitting, lift your foot off the ground and write your name in the air with your heel); and time (on the order of six months). That was more than a decade ago. I still wear the Thorlos and cushiony shoes and the problem hasn't recurred.

Oops. Spemco is the electronics manufacturer. Spenco makes the medical supplies.

The missus got the shoe inserts at the NB store recently and they've greatly reduced her foot pain.

When you wear New Balance sneakers, you have one more thing in common with Al Qaeda terrorist leader Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/04/world/middleeast/04cnd-iraq.html?_r=1&ex=1146974400&en=2df7374a2d1023b9&ei=5087%0A&oref=slogin).

Mom mother swears by her shoe inserts. She did the whole "orthopedic" mould thinggy and the results were a support that changed the way her body aligned. Suddenly her knees stopped hurting as well as her lower back.

I've certainly noticed a difference from one pair of shoes to another so I have no problem believing that the shape inside the shoe can make all the world of difference.

I liked Amber Spyglass!
