and when the course of the sun takes it past the westmost window in my living room, casting its bright light both into the corner of my eye and squarely onto the screen of my laptop, making it difficult for me to see, then I know that winter has arrived and it's time to embark on my annual migration to another part of my apartment to work.

The floor plan doesn't give the full sense of monstrous scale. The speakers go 8 feet high, the record crates reach eye level and have more junk on top of them, there's another CD rack and a table lamp on top of the stereo cabinet, and the empty box on top of the pile to my right reaches the 9-foot-6 ceiling.

The keyboard doesn't usually live here, but it was the only convenient place for the short little MIDI cable to reach the computer. The computer desk normally sits over to the right against the boxes rather than obstructing the stereo.

No, my setup is more like this:

where 'WW' and 'W' are windows, 'DD' are doors, 'DESK' is a desk, and '..SUN..' is the horrible burning sunrays that blind me when the sun is just in the right position.
