I've photocopied the pattern, set aside the yarn, and located a size J crochet hook. Tomorrow, if all goes according to plan, I will learn to crochet.
Also, if I remember and it is cold enough, maybe I will wear my giant scarf.

After that, you might try afghan hook crochet, also known as tunisian crochet. It's like a cross between knitting and crochet.
