Arrrrrrrr

I kind of wish I knew how snow is getting in my bedroom window, but it seems to be pretty mysterious, apart from the general principle that my apartment is about as airtight as a screen door.

I actually have a theory or two, but they seem to violate physics.

arrrrrr

A strategically placed towel will, I hope, prevent any additional snow from getting blown onto me as I sleep. I guess I should add 'talk to landlord about windows' to my list of things to do tomorrow.

Now, I have no idea what this stuff is called in English, or if you can even find it locally, but you need to get some of this:

http://www.rusta.se/product.asp?product_id=79

It's a roll of rubbery insulation material, with a P-shapped crossection (thus the name), and an adhesive back. You just stick it around the edges of the window, placed so that the bulge of it gets flattened when you close the window, and no more snow inside the house.

its snowing in my apartment too, however the snow is landing on the radiator, which is turned up SO high that it doesn't have a chance of accumulating.

oh dear! That's not much fun. I'm all for the the insulation idea. I used it in a previous apartment, it worked really well. I hope that otherwise you are staying warm!

that's pretty impressive... although i'm slightly reassured because it means my window is less freakish. i just got snow between the storm window and the inside window, but none inside yet that i can tell.

that new feature is pretty cool too... maybe i should think about doing the paid account thing.

we put up the really ghetto plastic sheets that you stick to the windows with a hairdryer last year. that seemed to work pretty well, until the moron cats put holes in it.

I managed to take apart my camera and sand the contacts so it can tell it has batteries in, but I still have no SmartMedia card to make it work and take snow pictures! And I'm too lazy to lug the laptop around to make the Traveller (which I forgot about in my REPLACE MY STUFF post) work. Oh, but wait! The Traveller also has built-in memory; I just haven't tried taking it apart to sand its contacts yet! New, low-energy project! START THE HOT CHOCOLATE!

Traveller fixed, but no hot chocolate

I got too busy fretting about phone calls to remember to make hot chocolate, but I did get the Traveller fixed. Its problem was not sea water at all, but designed-in breakage. The battery connection is held together by two screws that go into the plastic case and eventually work their way loose. I spent a couple hours on and off fiddling with sandpaper and glue, and eventually gave up and fixed it the sensible way: by cramming aluminum foil in the gaps.

Now I have blurry pix, not yet online, of the wind sculpture around the tree with hopping-squirrel prints in the snow (our squirrels, too fat to walk, leave tracks that look just like rabbit tracks) and of my bewildered niece who showed up at our door this morning while her daddy deals with the furnace people.
